On 2 October 2016 an annual celebration took place commemorating tragic events from the first months of World War II. A large number of attendees, including veterans, students, teachers, scouts, representatives of associations, authorities and institutions, paid tribute to those murdered.
The celebration was started with an artistic program. Students from the Municipal Junior Secondary School in Bolszewo recited poems alluding to the tragic events of 1939. Bishop Wiesław Szlachetka and other priests prayed during a concelebrated Mass for the Fallen Defenders of the Motherland. A Roll of Honor was called at a chapel in the forest, and the Polish Navy Command Battalion fired an honorary salute.
A delegation from the newly established Piaśnica Museum led by Director Teresa Patsidis took part in the celebration for the first time. A bouquet was laid on behalf of the museum employees.
The head organizers of the celebrations were the Wejherowo Commune and the Parish of Christ the King and the blessed sister Alicja Kotowska. Next year this cyclic celebration will be held on 1 October.
